Follow these four basic steps to complete the student registration process.

Confirm which Sumner County school your student is zoned to attend based on your home address.

Complete Skyward Registration
Complete the appropriate online registration process in Skyward before visiting the school.

Gather Required Documents
Collect the identification, residency, health and student records needed to complete enrollment.

Visit Your School
Bring the required documents to your student's school to complete the registration process.
Required Registration Documents
Before completing registration at your student's school, gather the documents that apply to your student and household.
Health Requirement: Incoming kindergarten students, incoming 7th-grade students and students who are new to a Tennessee school are required to submit a vaccination record.
Parent or Guardian Identification
A parent or guardian must provide photo identification.

Student Identification & Records
- Certified Birth Certificate
A mother's copy of the birth certificate is not accepted. - Tennessee Certificate of Immunization
This may be obtained from your healthcare provider or the Tennessee Department of Health. - Physical Exam
Required for kindergarten registration and students moving into Tennessee from another state.
Immunization Requirements
If immunizations were completed outside Tennessee, the immunization record must be transferred to a Tennessee form.
- Religious Exemption: Must be submitted in writing.
- Medical Exemption: Must be submitted on physician letterhead.

Proof of Residency
Two (2) proofs of residency are required.
Accepted Documents
- Signed lease agreement — student should be listed on the lease
- Mortgage statement*
- Electric bill
- Water bill
- Gas bill
- Cable bill
*A mortgage statement must be accompanied by two utility bills.
Not Accepted
- Cell phone bill
- Bank statement
- Credit card statement
- Handwritten agreements
Student Health Information Form
Print and complete the Student Health Information Form and bring it with you when completing registration at your student's school.
The English and Spanish versions of this form will be available in the Resources section below.
Custody, Guardianship & Special Residency Situations
Additional documentation may be requested depending on your student's living or custody arrangement.
- Proof of Custody or Guardianship
Custody documents or a court-ordered parenting plan must be provided at registration in cases involving a legal custodian, shared parenting or guardianship placement. - Residency Affidavit
Required when the custodial or residential parent does not lease or own the residence. The affidavit must be notarized.
If a parenting plan is in place, the primary residential parent must register the student in the school for which the student is zoned.

July 2026
Skyward Registration Opens
Families may begin completing the online portion of student registration in Skyward.
August 3–5, 2026
School Registration
New and returning student registration takes place at Sumner County Schools.
August 10, 2026
First Day of Classes
The 2026–2027 school year begins for Sumner County Schools students.
Remember: Bring all required documentation to your school during registration to complete enrollment.
